Internal Doors

By how much can each door be trimmed?
It depends on the type of door because each range has different size rails. The easy way to tell is to look at the top or bottom of the door and you can usually see how thick the rails are. The important thing to remember is the door should be trimmed equally from both sides and not by more than half the thickness of the rail.

Is it possible to get none standard sizes?
Yes. The Royale, Royale Modern and Illusion range of doors can be made to order. They take up to 14 weeks to be manufactured and there is a minimum order value.

What wood species are available?
The standard Royale collection is available in oak and cherry in most designs. See details for each door for options on finish.

The Illusion range is available in oak and ash as standard. Please see details for each door and the options on finish.

The Royale door collection can be made to order in a number of wood species.

What are the lead times?
All the doors in our catalogue are stocked in our suppliers warehouse. Standard doors will be delivered within two weeks provided that the goods are in stock at the time of ordering.

What type of treatment should I use on my door if it is not pre-finished?
It depends on the ultimate finish that you are seeking. We recommend a solvent based product which are able to provide a full and complete seal to our products. It is important to remember that once the doors have been sized and any cut outs made for hinges and locks then these areas must also be treated. The use of water based products is not recommended.

Do they come with locks fitted?
Yes, all of our range has multi-point door locks which have passed recognised security tests known as PAS24. They also meet the police preferred lock specification which is called ‘Secure By Design’. We fit two types of door locks one is operated by lifting the handles which in turn drives the locking mechanism. The second type of lock is driven by the key. As you wind the key it drives the lock mechanism. This type of lock does not require handles and therefore gives a more traditional look of a timber door.

What glass designs are available?
We have a standard collection of glass designs to choose from. Please refer to the door creator section of the web site where designs can be found. You can also create your own design if you wish and we will make it to meet your requirements.

Can you fit a cat flap?
No, not with this type of door because it would affect the integrity of the engineered timber core potentially leaving it exposed to moisture.

Do they come with letterboxes, door knockers etc?
Yes, you specify what you want fitted to the door and it will be manufactured accordingly. We have a range of options available. Please see the door creator section of our site for more details.

Do the doors come in a frame?
Yes, all of our doors come as complete door sets which include the frames. Frames are available in either PVC or our specially designed SP frame. This is an aluminium sub frame which is then capped on the inside and outside with either PVC or timber. This means that you can have the frame the same colour as the door leaf if that is what you require. The SP frame is also more secure.

Is it possible to get a threshold which is suitable for use with wheel chairs?
Yes, we have two types of threshold available. The standard is 25mm high and suits 90% of applications. The alternative is a 15mm high threshold which meets the requirements of Part M of the building regulations.

Are the doors weather tight?
Yes, The frame incorporates triple weather seals and the doors meet the most stringent weather test which is known as PAS23.

Are there any doors which meet half hour fire rating?
Yes many of the standard doors styles are available as FD30

The Merlin Fibreglass Door Range

What are the doors made from?

All doors have a 2mm thick fibreglass skin available in timber-like grain or smooth finish. The rails are manufactured from high density cellular PVC bonded around a core of CFC free polyurathene foam giving it insulation values which exceed timber.

What colours are available?
Doors are available in white, red, blue, black and green ‘through colour’ on the outside and white as standard on the inside meaning the colour runs right through the fibreglass skin. Thus the doors are highly resistant to scratches and dents.

Will the doors twist or bow?
Fibreglass is a thermoset material which means that the rate of expansion and contraction is minimal and the doors are guaranteed not to bow, bend or twist more than 2mm. In fact we will guarantee this to you for 10 years.

What type of lock is fitted?
The doors are fitted with multi-point locking systems which incorporate two hooks and a centre dead bolt.

What colour furniture is available?
We have gone to great lengths to ensure that the furniture we use is of a good quality and that it matches the other components used in the manufacture of the door. The standard colours are white, silver and gold.

Does the door have a low threshold?
Yes, our doors have a 25mm low threshold which meets part M of the Building Regulations.

Does the door come in a frame?
Yes the door has a specially designed composite door frame made from PVC. The door frame is only available in white. It is reinforced with steel sections to provide strength and to ensure that the hardware is attached to the inner steel core.
